2009 foals! Welcome, Mazie! She's a keeper!
This year brings our breeding and foaling to an end.
Enjoy the photos!
Well--I've had a colt name picked out for six years, and I only had two more chances to use it. Then it was one.
This is my 5th filly out of five foals born here over the last six years. I thought that would change in 2007, but nope,
two more fillies. Surely the trend couldn't continue in 2009...and sure enough a filly was the first to arrive! I love,
love, love my girls, so I'm not complaining--it's that the colt name is so darn cute.
Little Churchs Amazing Grace, aka Mazie! Born April 22, 2009
Kennedy was here for this entire birth. I checked milk after work on the 22nd and it was skim milk consistency, so I
knew it was only hours away. She and I looked up foal names and ate popcorn while we waited for Gypsy to get
started. At 9:30 water broke and the filly was out with about five contractions. She's much smaller than Rosie and a
silver dapple. Vet came the next day and all is well.
Rachel, my daughter, missed this foaling due to college, so she headed home with cousins the next night for a few
hours to meet Mazie.
Thanks to Kennedy's dad, Peter, for taking over the photographer role while I was busy. Nearly all the photos
taken of the foal's arrival and care are Peter's. I did manage to take the first row before Peter arrived.

Getting Mazie dried off.
She caught on to nursing quickly!
Are you my mother?
Dry, blanketed, and finding the
milk bar. Life is good.
Welcome, Mazie. We've been waiting for you.
The photos
are dark
because we
didn't use a
flash, but
since Chloe is
a calmer mare,
we did use a
flash for the
next foaling.
Attentive mama.
Kennedy and her dad headed
home after this shot. Thank you!
Mark wanted to get a hug too!
Since the ladies on my
quilting forum were waiting
for news, I was busy texting
the details to a friend, who
posted the information as
she received it. I was also
sending the news to my son
and daughter, who were
both at college. That added
a new dimension to foaling.
Kennedy--my foaling assistant.
She's just gets cuter and cuter.
Doing laps in the stall.
Rachel came from college the next
evening to see her--and had to head
back the same night.
To the right and below--Mazie's first
visit to the great outdoors at about 19
hours old.
I really love the two below.
11 days old.
Mazie's morning dance!
Last weekend, I headed out to the pasture with my camera
for a photo shoot, and got delayed. Someone needed a
pillow. It was comical getting these shots myself, but I did.
These photos were taken by Peter
Jensen the night of Tucker's arrival.
I'm thinking it's easy for you to guess more photos will be coming.
The kissing lessons start early around here.
